Minutes for June 11, 2008 Selectmen’s Meeting

Members Present:  Jean C. Harmon, Clifford L. Emery, Robert C. Libby, Daniel T. Collomy and Linda W. Pulsoni.

Others Present:  Jack Hanna, Peter Burns, Peter Pinkham, Julie Miccuci, Andrea Cowand and Larry Miller.

Business Meeting Agenda – 7:00 p.m.

1.      Call to Order.

The Meeting was called to order at 7:05 p.m.

Open Paving Bids

Opening paving bids was postponed.

2.      Approval of Prior Meeting Minutes.

Selectmen’s Meeting Minutes June 4, 2008.  Approved 5-0.

3.      Discussion held between 5:00 & 7:00 p.m.

4.      Review of Correspondence.

None





5.      Review of Projects and Issues.

Selectman Libby reported that the Tax Commitment information in the Town Report from pages 104 to 177 was incorrect.  The incorrect information has no affect on the taxes.  If any one would like a correct copy of the information stop by the Town Office or call for a copy to be mailed.

Selectmen Collomy and Libby met last Tuesday with Dearborn Bros. to review the granite curbing lay out and the grading for the landscaping for the Korean War Memorial.  Today Selectman Collomy and Libby raised the flag at the new flag pole at the Rogers Fibre Mill Park.

Selectman Pulsoni reported that the Selectmen met Monday night for a Workshop.  The Selectmen are not ready to present the Boston Cane yet as they are checking on another person to verify this person is the oldest resident.

Selectman Emery reported that the paving for the area around the new Public Works Garage will be done June 26.

Selectman Harmon thanked all the 1,139 voters who came out to cast ballots Tuesday.  She reported that the Selectmen are gearing up for the Annual Town Meeting which will be held Saturday, June 14 at 9:00 a.m.

E.O.070806014 – An order to approve 16 hours of vacation time for Greg Heffernan.  Approved 5-0.

E.O.070805015 – An order to approve the Liquor License for Just Julie’s.  Approved 5-0.





10.     Accounts Payable and Payroll Warrants.

E.O.070806012 -- An order approving expenditures as documented in Accounts Payable Warrant #50-08.  Approved 5-0.

11.     Next Meeting of the Board.

Annual Town Meeting Saturday, June 14 at 9:00 a.m.

Cable TV Meeting June 12 at the Hollis Station
Selectmen’s Meeting Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.

12.     Other Business.

The Ground Breaking for the new elementary school will take place at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, June 12 at the site of the school.





13.     Public Comments and Questions.

Peter Burns asked about the Food Pantry expense that was mentioned at last week’s Meeting.  The Selectmen stated that the expense for the Food Pantry was coming from the Miscellaneous Account.

Peter also asked about the new back hoe that needed to be purchased for the Transfer Station.  The Selectmen responded that a Special Town Meeting was held to authorize the purchase of a new backhoe about one month ago.

Larry Miller thanked the voters who voted him into the vacancy on the School Board representing Buxton.  He stated there would be a meeting Monday and he reiterated the mission statement of the school and how he can be reached through the SAD#6 website.

Larry also stated that he had read the Recreation Director job description.  He would like to see change in how the position is managed.  He would like the items mentioned by the auditor implemented and he said he was sorry that it took so long for the issue to be addressed as it was brought forth a year ago.  He suggested mini performance reviews need to be done to monitor and changes made before they become bigger issues.

Selectman Collomy asked about a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Public Garage or an Open House.

Selectman Libby thanked the public that voted for him and stated that the Town of Buxton voters do not practice age discrimination.
